5 Simple Ways to Reduce Your Waste

by STEPHANIE MCGARR |

  1. Filter your own water instead of buying bottled water. Bottled water is not regulated and often contaminated with bacteria and microplastics, so you are much better off filtering the water at your kitchen sink and filling up your reusable bottle.
  2. Use the dishwasher instead of handwashing. This might seem counterintuitive, but you use a lot less water using an efficient dishwashing machine than doing your dishes by hand.
  3. Use biodegradable trash bags.
  4. Instead of single-use plastic baggies, buy a set of reusable silicone bags. They're dishwasher safe, cheaper than purchasing plastic bags, and not wasteful.
  5. Stop using straws or purchase a reusable glass or metal straw.
